APACPH ECN Annual Photo Competition

Welcome to the APACPH Annual Photo Competition, an esteemed event organized by the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH). Our competition is a celebration of creativity, visual storytelling, and the art of photography. Each year, talented photographers from across the Asia-Pacific region submit their captivating images, capturing moments that inspire, provoke thought, and shed light on public health issues. About APACPH: The Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) is an influential organization dedicated to promoting public health education, research, and practice across the Asia-Pacific region. Comprising esteemed academic institutions, research centers, and health professionals, APACPH serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building. The APACPH Annual Photo Competition is one of the initiatives undertaken by APACPH to engage with the community and highlight the intersection of public health and visual arts.

Eligibility:

The “Reflections” APACPH International Photo Competition is an open competition that invites individuals interested in communicating public health through photography to submit their photographs. Participants from all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome to participate.

Guidelines for Digital Images:

  • Only digital images are eligible for submission.
  • Images must be submitted as JPEG files, in color, without interpolation applied.
  • Save JPEGs at the highest possible quality setting in your image editing software.
  • The submitted images must have a resolution of 2400 pixels on the longer aspect and must have been taken with a sufficiently high-resolution camera.
  • Rules and Guidelines for Images:
  • Winning images from previous competitions, images selected for other competitions, or exhibited in the past are not allowed.
  • Watermarks on images are not allowed.
  • Compositing, sandwiching shots, and in-camera double or multiple exposures are not allowed.
  • Cropping is allowed.
  • Basic adjustments such as cleaning, removing dust spots, global adjustments, minor dodging and burning, and sharpening are allowed.
  • Each contestant can submit up to four images, with a short caption of 30-50 words for each photograph.
  • All submitted images must have been taken within the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Submit your entries through the APACPH official website. If submitting more than two entries, please use a separate Google form for each photo.

Submission Information:

For each photo submitted, include the following information:

  • Name of the photographer
  • Photographer affiliation (Email and Phone)
  • Title of each photograph
  • Location (city and country where the photograph was taken)
  • Date (year, at least) each photograph was taken (during the COVID-19 pandemic)
  • Contact number
  • An affirmation regarding images containing recognizable faces: “For this photo, I asked for and received verbal consent from those in the photograph.”

Copyright and Reproduction:

Participants must be the sole author and owner of the copyright and publishing rights for all images entered.
Participants will retain the copyright of their entries and will always be credited alongside their pictures.
By entering the competition, participants grant APACPH a non-exclusive license to reproduce the images in any format for purposes including judging, virtual exhibition display, interactive elements, promotional materials, APACPH publications, and health promotional material of APACPH and partnering organizations.

Declaration of Truth:

When uploading photographs, participants must declare that the images comply with the competition rules and that the provided information is true and accurate.

Liability:

All entries are sent at the photographer’s risk, and APACPH does not accept liability for any loss or damage to the images entered or any other loss or damage resulting from the competition.

Legal Issues:

Participants must have all necessary publishing rights and copyrights for the entered images. Model releases and rights releases are the responsibility of the participating photographers. APACPH or SLMA will not accept claims regarding competition images’ rights violations and will redirect such claims to the relevant photographer. Participants agree to indemnify APACPH against any third-party claims related to rights violations, breach of law, or defamation.

Ethical Guidelines:

Participants are advised to adhere to accepted standards of decency when capturing and submitting images for the competition. APACPH will individually assess each image and remove any deemed unsuitable for publishing on unrestricted public platforms.

Judging:

The competition will be judged by a panel of experts appointed by APACPH in the fields of photography, health, and public health. The decisions made by the judging panel on all matters related to the competition will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the competition’s judging and organization. If the quality of entries falls below the required standard, APACPH reserves the right not to award prizes.
